Shaded Relief

This is a shaded relief map of Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park. I used natural colors modeled after Tom Patterson's natural color palette.

I minimally labeled this map because I wanted to give prominence to Going-to-the-Sun Road, which is the maroon line located in the middle of the map.

A shaded relief was created for this map using a digital elevation model (DEM) of Glacier National Park and the hillshade tool in ArcMap 10.1. I then exported the preliminary map to Adobe Photoshop and used the airbrush feature to very slightly modify the look of the shaded relief.

Both the shaded relief and the natural color image were finally exported to Adobe Illustrator where labeling and the final touches took place.
